Indonesian Earthquake Felt in Singapore

45 calls about Sumatra quake-induced tremors

SINGAPORE: The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received about 45 calls from the public about tremors being felt in certain parts of Singapore, following an earthquake in neighbouring Indonesia's Sumatra on Monday.

Meteorological Services confirmed that an earthquake occurred in southern Sumatra and said it registered 7.5 on the Richter scale. MediaCorp's hotline received several calls informing it of tremors in Robinson Road, Sembawang, Jalan Sultan, Toa Payoh and Pioneer Road.

Police said there is no cause for alarm.

The SCDF said the public should remain calm. The SCDF added if you are inside a building when a tremor occurs, you should:

i. Take cover under a table;

ii. Keep away from items made of glass or any hanging object;

iii. Do not use the lift;

iv. Do not use any naked light, in case there is a gas leak.

After vibrations have stopped, you should:

i. Stay away from any exposed electrical cables, hanging glass objects;

ii. Report any gas leakage;

iii. Help the injured, call SCDF if the injuries are significant;

iv. Report any incidents or issues of law and order to the police.

I really don't understand the childishness of some people. Up till now, I preferred to stay neutral but I think 6D has gone too far. I mean, wat r we competimg about? See who can utter the most vulgarities? U 6D people should be ashamed of yourselves. If other levels or classes get to noe this, u people will be the laughing stock of the school.
